Subject: A Hidden Gem
Norfolk is a hidden gem of a show. Great set list, but more than that was the exploratory, cohesive playing. The best example is the jam between Scarlet and Fire. It defines tantalizing! the whole building was just suspended waiting on the journey to complete. It was so quiet. Guy near me yelled "JUST PLAY IT!". And they finally did. I'd love to re-live that moment.
1982 was my best year of touring. 8 shows. Norfolk ranks #2 after Austin 7/31.

Subject: Nice Scarlet>Fire
Best part for me is Jerry's inflection in Scarlet. He always had an amazing knack to emphasize different lyrics on any given night. What great emotion.
Subject: welcome to the Mickey Mouse club
The highlights to me are, Peggy-O, Scar-Fire, and the Eyes. Birdsong gets a nod as well except for the aud patch (but you cant really tell)

Thanks!
Subject: WOW!
Second of all...I understand this is totally objective, but to me? '82-'84 are my favorite years. Yes, even over '71, '74, '77' and '89.
I have NEVER EVER EVER heard a Scarlet > Fire transition as weird as this one. Bobby's guitar work is stellar. Don't miss the forest for the trees people...at the very least listen to this Scarlet Fire. WOW
Subject: bit overrated but interesting and worthwhile
Subject: Geodesic Dead
There is no doubt Charlie is a genius, and his expertise and generosity are both very commendable, but this is certainly not anything close to his best, and I'd be embarrassed to call this a soundboard recording. Its mostly (typically shitty for the period) audience recording with some real dogshit soundboard patches. And its 1982 for chrissakes, so there really isn't that much going on here. I know, I was there! (89 pts)
Subject: The only real gold left in America in 2009...old Dead shows.
